well today Cara turned 8. I can't believe I have an 8 year old. It's too scary a thought really.
There are some very funny stories from Cara's birthday party. Mostly they revolve around Cara and some of her 'perculiarities' (most of which are probably caused by my parenting choices and inability to conform to mainstream anything).
Cara had 2 little girls join us at Montezuma's mexican restaurant. She decided on Montezuma's because she wanted to eat mexican style kidney beans. The party she went to after her's for another little girl was at McDonalds. Don't think I need to add comment.
Ok the two little girls at Cara's party were Jessica and Hannah. Cara was opening her presents and got to her parcel of Cd's from us. The top one on the pile was "Chill with Debussy". She was very excited and said "Oh Debussy, you got it. Yay!" Hannah and Jessica were looking at her with their very best "what the hell is that all about???" confused faces.
Then we got to her "Egyptology" book. A children't non fiction book on Egypt with lots of little interactive elements. She proceeded to laugh and squeal "I got egyptology" while running around our table. Once again Jessica and Hanna really didn't understand the whole big deal.
On the Cara trip from Cara's birthday party to Hannah's birthday party Cara was reading a 'best friend' quizz from her only saddle club magazine. She got to the "what's your favourite cd" question. Hannah answered "Britney. What's yours?" Cara's reply was "Mozart". I nearly lost it laughing so hard. Cara really does live on a planet of her own. It's those things I love so much about her. The fact that she doesn't even realise that what she likes isn't the same as what most other kids like.
She's also discovered that MagnaDoodles are not only great for art type activities but all kinds of magnatisation experiments. We're hiding our wallets that's for sure.
Mothers Day has been lovely. Breakfast at French Twist is just an unbeatable experience. Absolutely worth a trip out to Carindale for anyone (if you're not like us and live down the road)
